For a few days last summer, the roads and buildings around the Custard Factory became a temporary movie set when legendary Hollywood director Steven Spielberg came to shoot scenes for his latest movie, ‘Ready Player One‘!
Now, we get the first look at the highly-anticipated movie as the first official trailer has been released to coincide with the San Diego Comic Con. The filming of the movie here in Digbeth, along with scenes shot in the Jewellery Quarter caused quite a stir across Birmingham last summer, and came as part of a string of high-profile movies using the city as a shooting location. We wrote about why Brum is such a valuable place for movie studios to come and use as filming locations for the Birmingham Post; you can read the article HERE.
‘Ready Player One’ is a futuristic fantasy epic based on the celebrated novel by Ernest Cline. Set in 2045, the film sees the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
